"Tropical Storm Gustav may halt 1.2 million barrels a day of crude oil production if it strikes the U.S. Central Gulf Coast, CNBC reported, citing a weather forecaster.
There is a 70 to 75 percent likelihood of this happening, according to Aaron Studwell of Weather Insight, who expects the storm to strike the Gulf as a Category 3 hurricane, CNBC said on its Web site.
Gustav may arrive close to Lake Charles and Henry Hub, the collection point for gas pipelines, Studwell told CNBC. Between 40 to 45 percent of the region's natural gas production may be at risk of long-term damage, according to CNBC. "
