GAS MISERILNESS BRINGS DOWN OIL'S PRICE

News item (Bloomberg):

Gasoline Futures Decline as Record U.S. Pump Prices Cut Demand

By Robert Tuttle

June 9 (Bloomberg) -- Gasoline futures fell from a record on lower demand, as prices above $4 at the pump prompt motorists to drive less.

The average U.S. pump price for regular gasoline rose above $4 a gallon for the first time over the weekend. Demand for the motor fuel in the four weeks ended May 30 was 1.4 percent below the same period a year earlier, Energy Department data show.

``People are definitely trying to change their habits,'' said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates LLC, a consulting company based in Houston. ``This summer, people will still take vacations but they won't drive as far. They will stay closer to home.''
